And So We Meet Again...

he's got the most beautiful big brown eyes and dashing smile on any boy i've ever seen close up.
he's shy, sly, and mysterious.
he doesn't seem to be a "player" but i imagine he's been around the block a few times.
he's not the one to pursue "fans", or care if they're around, but if one (like myself) shows interest in a sly fashion, he'll reciprocate if for no other reason than brazen curiousity.
he tells you NOTHING remotely personal, but he does talk about his cats to great length and with boyish enjoyment.
he pretends to be naive, but knows exactly how to get what he wants.
he's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
he suggests lude and lascivious things and when he is responded with a look of horror or surprise, he recoils and asks in a virginal tone "what is that bad?"
his lips taste like milk and honey.
he's an amazing kisser.
he has a coyish grin.
he is intense but doesn't know it.
(even in his mystery) he is alarmingly honest.
he has a normal guy body underneath that black suit and bravado.
his flabby bits are refreshing and few and far between.
he wears jeans, vans and a hoodie to get comfy.
he likes to cuddle, according to him.
he is playful.
he does a shimmy on stage and thinks no one noticed.
he prefers to be at home.
he bobs and weaves.
he stands in the shadows and prefers it there.
he is lovely.
he smells like rock boy and cigarettes.
he makes an impression.
i make him laugh.
i know exactly what i am to him, and make no pretenses otherwise.
he is just a guy. of flesh and blood.
i hope to see him again someday, perhaps in passing...

Mystery Man

Oh to be me. It's not so bad mind you. Here's a little story...

So I go with a friend of mine to the Culture Room, we're there to see Hot Hot Heat and the Editors. Louis XIV is also playing but we miss them. Anyhow, we see both bands. I'm broke so this means my drink minimum is at a real minimum, and i'm pretty sober. Between bands my friends and I scope out the male situation, the usuals are there, the skinny jean - t-shirt - messy hair clad gents which all look like they weigh less than me wet with boots on (not that i'm fat by any means) but still. Sickly looking boys, which i like, don't get me wrong...I digress, amidst these pale males I see the Adonis in the crowd. This boy had me salivating. Gorgeous. Who was he? He walked around with swagger, mystery and a touch of bravado, just how i like them.

I lose track of him somehow as the other band starts to play, "Who cares" I think to myself, " He probably has a girlfriend, or a wife, or both" They all tend to do when you get to my age (30). I let it go. Watch the Editors, get pushed around a bit, etc. After they play I spot my future heartache walking around. My friends who are equally enamored with this mystery man persuade me to stay a little longer by offering me liquor. I agree. I casually wait for them at the end of the bar while I wait I make eye contact with mysterio, I smile an "acknowledging" smile and look away uninterested. I assume this peaked his fancy as it drew him near and HE began speaking to ME. I played it cool. In true Fonz style and lo and behold my groupie dna was well at work even when i was unaware that the mysterious man that peaked my fancy was indeed Jimmy Armbrust from LOUIS XIV. We spoke of the Wayward Sailor Saloon, his pending trip to St. Petersburg, FL to see the Dali Museum and I was able to subtly suggest that he should give me his phone number, which he did. All this in plain view of my awestruck female cohorts. Ah! It's in the blood, what can i say? I called once, just to verify it was his number. Got the machine, didn't leave a message and never called back. It's all about the hunt sometimes, and my black eye-lined prey had been caught with nothing but a smile.mm

the wonderful world of WEEN.

I'm sure there might be a mere handful of you who really appreciate the wonders of the band WEEN. Probably like 8 of you right? I was lucky enough to be introduced to them by my ex ex boyfriend, and it's one of the greatest things he ever did for me.
Saturday night's show was OFF THE CHAIN. They played the inside venue of Fort Lauderdale's smoky music haven "Revolution" The last two times i saw them they played the outdoor setting. And i'm not sure what to attribute this particularly spectacular show to...could it be the indoor acoustics, or the fact that the boys (Dean and Gene) are recently off the hard stuff, meaning their usual wacky artistic lubricant consisting of drugs and alcohol. Whatever the reason, if not both, It was a great show.
My only complaint, is that due to their recent sobriety they did not wander in to the Poorhouse Bar next door. Luckily the drummer(a mix of Lionel Richie, Bryant Gumble and Stuart Copeland) did.

That's me in the middle of the picture by the way. A true groupie always gets the closest!

And so it begins...

I've started this blog to hold an account of my groupie adventures. And i will take this opportunity to clear up the kind of "groupie" i am.
I am not by any means a rock slut, slobbering on the members of every member of any band. That is not my style. I do not sleep with these people or otherwise. I meet them, i converse with them, i pick their brains, about things i find interesting, if they're so inclined. My heart beats for these men, amidst the musical whimsy, and i can't help myself but to be drawn to them, like a moth to full blown pagan fire. I've met quite a few, fallen in love with one, and had many memorable evenings. None of which i regret.

Perhaps the most memorable have passed me by, and I will record them in a nostalgic re-telling. But considering that the thirst for rock lust lives in my veins i'm sure there'll be more to tell. And I better be ready...hence...
"What Would Penny Lane Do?" Welcome.
